Read more about Adam Rifkin’s new film, National Lampoon’s Homo Erectus — here’s a great article from Variety. The film opens on July 11 in theaters nationally, click here for tickets.
It stars Ali Larter, her boy-toy Hayes MacArthur, supermodel Carol Alt, the incredible David Carradine, “YO Adrienne!!!” Talia Shire, the insane comedy of Miles Dougal and Giuseppe Andrews, a tame yet incredibly potent performance by a loin-clothed Ron Jeremy, and his friend Jacklyn Lick, the Chocolate Diva Marie Luv, star of Showtime’s hot new show Californication, Madeline Zima, and many more.

So the U.S. is dependent on the Middle East for oil, which leads to geopolitical instability. Biofuels can run in your car and are made out of stuff that grows from the earth. But the problem with that is that we can’t displace food crops that feed humans so we can make oil, and we can’t encourage deforestation. So what do you do? Genetically engineer algae that ingests carbon dioxide (added benefit) and spits out oil, with little or no dependence on organic feedstock (folks at Solazyme are working on this). The result would be a clean burning biodiesel fuel, which works in any diesel engine car, old or new. Interestingly, a new push was made this year at the auto show to promote new diesel and turbo diesel powered cars. Some are ready now, and some won’t be until 2010 or so…either way, supporters argue they will have as good or better mileage than hybrids, and drive more like a real car with serious power. If you live in California or in the farm country down south, you may already see biodiesel as an option at the pump…but good luck finding it in New York City…for now that is…TriState Biodiesel is working on it for the future.

Check out this article Petaluma laser-maker Raydiance is shining.
I think Raydiance is exciting because they are doing for lasers what Microsoft and Intel did for computers — creating a small, portable, hardware + software laser model (set to stun, set to kill, set to vaporize…uh…yeah…) for the masses that you don’t need to be a PhD to use. What’s more, the super fast type of laser they did it with doesn’t give off heat, and is so precise it can strip the electrons off of atoms virtually making matter disappear. The first people to use it will be doctors and military-types, then manufacturing and other industries, etc., and eventually you, the consumer.
I recently read about how cell phone technology has brought the price of imaging sensors down so much that there are now cheap infrared night vision goggles for kids that had been $250 and only for adults just a couple of years ago. Imagine trading in your Ginsu knives for a pen laser that can carve the Thanksgiving turkey and then by changing the setting take down a surface to air missile. It’s exciting to ponder the possibilities of unlocking the power of light. One researcher is even using these types of lasers to try to lock in on the AIDS virus. Imagine lasers competing with drugs!!!
Talk about disruptive business ideas.

A young woman in New York was so depressed that she decided to end her life by throwing herself into the ocean. She went down to the decks and was about to leap into the frigid water when a handsome young sailor saw her tottering on the edge of the pier, crying.
He took pity on her and said, “Look, you’ve got a lot to live for. I’m off to Europe in the morning, and if you like, I can stow you away on my ship.
I’ll take good care of you and bring you food every day.” Moving closer, he slipped his arm around her shoulder and added, “I’ll keep you happy, and you’ll keep me happy.” The girl nodded yes. After all, what did she have to lose. Maybe a fresh start in Europe would give her a great new life.
That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a lifeboat. From then on, every night he brought her several sandwiches and a piece of fruit, and they made passionate love until dawn.
Four weeks later, during a routine inspection, she was discovered by the captain.
“What are you doing here?” the captain asked. “I have an arrangement with one of the sailors,” she explained. “I get food and a trip to Europe, and he’s screwing me!”

Did you know that American’s are caught on tape at least 200 times per day, and substantially more in major cities? How about that only thirteen states in the U.S. have laws banning security video cameras in dressing rooms of places like Macy’s and Bloomingdales as well as public bathrooms? Adam Rifkin, the director of the new film LOOK interviewed security guards at department stores like these expecting to find white haired, retired cops wearing private security company uniforms. To his surprise, the staffers at the joysticks of these cameras were seventeen year old high school drop out hacker types, who carried USB hard drives in their knapsacks to port clips zooming in on hot girls’ boobs or big fat people falling on their faces so they could anonymously post them to YouTube once they got home. So when your girlfriend or wife is trying on a string bikini, don’t be surprised when your friend sends you a link to it posted on some website.
LOOK is shot from the perspective of surveillance cameras and tells the story of various people’s lives Crash-style, with plot lines intertwining in some surprising ways. In each scene, you can see “lobby cam 9″ or “traffic cam 7.9.1.3″ or whatever in the corner so you know how the footage is being captured. And while the main characters are unknown actors, all the other people in the environment have no idea a film is being shot so the reactions of the extras are as realistic as you can get — BECAUSE THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE CAUGHT ON TAPE IN THE FILM.
Without giving away the plot, the story is enjoyable from a pure entertainment standpoint with lots of sex, comedy, violence, horror, surprise, tragedy, and more. But the way the story is told makes an even larger statement. In today’s paranoid, post 9/11, YouTube-enabled society, where do you draw the line between privacy and security?

What was he thinking? This guy needs a BrainScope. So you’ve all heard by now that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been caught red, sticky-handed for sleeping with prostitutes for thousands of dollars at a time (for the past six years) through Emperor’s Club VIP (website now disabled). The Huffington Post ran some screen grabs however of the site, where you can see pictures of all the prostitutes available for sex, as well as the pricing sheet. At the same time today, the Federal Reserve pumped $200 billion into financial markets helping to push the Dow up more than 400 points, the highest one day hike in years. But I can’t help but wonder if Wall Street was also just so happy to see Spitzer embarassed and his career ruined that they gained back some more confidence that big business and finance can prevail, despite the credit crisis.
So now we are left with one question — when do we start hearing about Clients 1-8? Could it be…Obama? It’s been a long time since Heidi Fleiss’ black book was exposed, we were due for some more juicy hooker stories in the news, and in an election year makes it perfect. Gotcha!

When iPhone came out corporate users complained it couldn’t compete with Research in Motion’s Blackberry devices because it was not compatible with corporate email servers. Today, Apple announced it would fix that by enabling iPhones to work with Microsoft Exchange Servers on the back end to push email and synch other Outlook functions including calendar and contacts. Problem is, I am not sure executives are ready for the touch screen. There will always be something more satisfying about physically pushing a button, and corporate users punch out tons of emails (and have fat fingers). Also, iPhones are still much more expensive than Blackberrys.
Did I mention how sick I am of Apple commercials? They make me want to hate them. Recently I’ve been thinking about getting a Microsoft Zune player instead of an iPod. The Zune has a subscription model that lets you download tons of songs every month wirelessly via WiFi, is video and picture capable, and even has an FM tuner. I can’t find my CD’s anymore (since moving and having a baby who knows where half of my previously beautifully organized collection is, in boxes, case logic cases, ripped to this computer but not that one, etc…) and I don’t want to keep buying music be it CDs, MP3s or whatever if I am going to keep losing the discs and changing computers, etc. Zune will just let me get what I need that month from month to month without having to find it physically or on one of numerous computers. Ever again.
By the way, I tried using my Blackberry 8830 from Verizon as an MP3 player for a while as it takes a micro SD card, but it kind of sucked. The sound was tinny, it requires the micro plug headphones, and the player makes it impossible to go back and forth quickly from email to music controls. Also, the video function is limited to a file format nothing is in. If corporate users become more and more demanding and want to converge devices, they might start thinking about the iPhone — perhaps Apple should add a keyboard for a corporate model, then we’re talking. However, what would be really interesting is a hybrid Zune/Microsoft Mobile phone with push email and a keyboard. I want my ZunePhone, please make it for me MSFT — I volunteer to beta test and promote it!
