Hearst to use YouTube for its magazines’ video channels
MediaWeek reported today in this post that Hearst is partnering with YouTube for several of its magazines’ online video channels including Seventeen, Marie Claire, and Good Housekeeping. They will also hold contests inviting users to upload their own videos for chances to win prizes. This is the state of audience engagement today. Here’s another site that lets users upload their own videos — this one is for “caught on tape” clips and uses YouTube on the back end. Like many people are finding, YouTube is the easiest way to reach the masses with your video. Why should a smart company spend $$$ on back end video infrastructure when it’s sitting there for free. I posted this video and got close to 40,000 views without any promotion, because I was thoughtful about what keywords and tags I associated with it.
